What is Dungeons and Dragons?

For those of you who stumble upon to my blog for the baking, which is what it is. You might have question about the game that I talk about a lot.

Dungeons and Dragons!

It is a fantasy role-playing game. Now before you jump to conclusions, no we do not dress up as wizards and sit in a basement of one of our parents houses. We are just normal, if not slightly more nerdy high school and college kids, who like to get together once in a while and just mess around. We sit around a table and play games, eat good food, and learn more about writing and acting from the experience.

That being said, DnD is one of the most stereotypical "nerd" activities. We have 20 sided dice and complex character storiees and motivations and personal interactions. So for those who have no idea what I am talking about I'll gie you a little cheat sheet of some words you might see.

Dungeon Master (DM)- This is the person who runs everything, they know the story and players are the main characters who have the role of playing out the story that was written or found by the DM.

Dice- Obviously you know what dice are, being an intelligent person. However in D&D we have slightly different dice than normal. We have d20, d12, d10, d8 d6, and d4, The number refers to how many sides the dice have. A d20 is the most common roll, it covers our skill checks!

Skill Checks- If  you want your character to do anything, swim, shoot a bow, haggle with someone in game, then you need to roll a skill check. If your d20 rolls high enough you succeed at what you want to do! Congratulations :)

Natural Rolls- Beware of rolling a natural 1 on anything, if you see that 1 come up be prepared for everything to go...well, poorly. However, if you get a natural 20, congrats! You're awesome and can succeed at what ever you were trying to do!

Enjoy your Adventures!!!
